Three mushroom supplements from our shelf: Deal Supplement Organic Mushroom Complex 10-in-1, NatureBell Lion's Mane capsules, Divine Bounty Lion's Mane capsules

Three mushroom bottles on our shelf print three different kinds of number on the front. One says 10-in-1 and no milligram figure at all. One says 1800mg Per Serving. One says only 240 Capsules and keeps its 600 mg for the Supplement Facts panel. We read all three panels line by line to find out what each number belongs to: a single mushroom, ten mushrooms sharing one formula, or a blend line that gives one weight for four names. This page puts the printed lion's mane figures in one unit, works the per-capsule and per-bottle arithmetic, and sorts out the wording — extract, fruiting body, mycelium, organic — as each label prints it. The series rule holds: we report what is printed and do the sums, and we say nothing about what any mushroom does.

Three labels, three lion's mane lines

Two of the three bottles are single-mushroom lion's mane products. The third is a ten-mushroom complex in which lion's mane is one line of ten. Serving sizes differ too: two capsules on two bottles, three on the third. The table reads the lion's mane line from each panel.

Label Serving size and lion's mane per serving
NatureBell Lion's Mane Mushroom Capsules 2 capsules: 600 mg lion's mane extract
Deal Supplement Mushroom Complex 10-in-1 2 capsules: 100 mg lion's mane extract
Divine Bounty Lion's Mane Mushroom Capsules 3 capsules: 1,800 mg lion's mane

In one unit, the three lion's mane figures are 600 mg, 100 mg and 1,800 mg per serving. The Divine Bounty panel prints its figure as "1800mg", no space and no comma, and the front repeats it as "1800mg Per Serving"; we write 1,800 mg in the prose and keep the printed form in quotes. The NatureBell front and the Deal Supplement front print no weight, so on two of the three bottles the milligrams appear on the panel only. Between the largest and smallest printed serving there is an eighteen-to-one range: 1,800 mg ÷ 100 mg = 18.

"10-in-1" is a count of mushrooms, not a 10:1 extract

The Deal Supplement front prints "mushroom", "10-in-1", "made with" and "organic mushrooms", and no weight. The 10 is the number of mushrooms named on the panel. Six lines each carry their own weight, every one of them 100 mg:

  • Organic Lion's Mane Extract (Hericium erinaceus) — 100 mg
  • Organic Chaga Extract (Inonotus obliquus) — 100 mg
  • Organic Reishi Extract (Ganoderma lucidum) — 100 mg
  • Organic Turkey Tail Extract (Trametes versicolor) — 100 mg
  • Organic Cordyceps Extract (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) — 100 mg
  • Organic Shiitake Extract (Lentinula edodes) — 100 mg

Below them a seventh line reads Proprietary Blend 100 mg, and under it four more names run on in a single sentence with no figure of their own: Organic Wood Ear Mushroom, Organic Oyster Mushroom, Organic Maitake and Organic Mesima, each followed by its Latin name. Six single-mushroom lines plus four blend members make the ten: 6 + 4 = 10. The panel total is addition: 6 × 100 mg = 600 mg for the six single-mushroom lines, plus 100 mg for the blend, is 700 mg across the seven weighed lines per 2-capsule serving. How the 100 mg blend is split among wood ear, oyster, maitake and mesima is not printed. Each of the seven weighed lines — the six extracts and the Proprietary Blend — carries the † mark; the four blend names print no mark of their own, and the footnote reads "† Daily Value not established."

"10-in-1" is easy to misread as a 10:1 ratio, and they are different things. A ratio printed beside an extract, 10:1 for example, is a concentration statement: how many parts of raw mushroom went into one part of finished extract. It is not a milligram figure; the weight of the extract is a separate figure on a panel. None of the three panels on this page prints a ratio of any kind: the Deal Supplement label prints a count of mushrooms, and the two lion's mane panels print a weight. For a panel that does print a ratio, see the Horbäach line in our six-label ashwagandha read: "a 10:1 extract, equivalent to 4,500 mg of Ashwagandha Root", printed beside a 450 mg extract weight.

Per capsule and per bottle

A serving of two or three capsules hides what one capsule carries, and the servings-per-container line hides what the bottle carries; both come out of the printed figures by division and multiplication.

Label Lion's mane per capsule and per bottle
NatureBell, 240 capsules 300 mg/capsule; 120 × 600 mg = 72,000 mg
Deal Supplement, 240 capsules 50 mg/capsule; 120 × 100 mg = 12,000 mg
Divine Bounty, 90 capsules 600 mg/capsule; 30 × 1,800 mg = 54,000 mg

Per capsule: 600 mg ÷ 2 = 300 mg for NatureBell, 100 mg ÷ 2 = 50 mg of lion's mane for the Deal Supplement complex, and 1,800 mg ÷ 3 = 600 mg for Divine Bounty. The capsule counts check against the fronts: 120 servings × 2 capsules = 240 for both 240-capsule bottles, and 30 servings × 3 capsules = 90 for Divine Bounty. Per bottle the order changes. The bottle with the largest serving holds 30 × 1,800 mg = 54,000 mg of lion's mane; the bottle with the 600 mg serving holds 120 × 600 mg = 72,000 mg, which is 72,000 mg − 54,000 mg = 18,000 mg more, on 120 servings against 30. The complex holds 120 × 100 mg = 12,000 mg of lion's mane inside 120 × 700 mg = 84,000 mg across the seven weighed lines in all.

Matching one label's serving in another label's capsules:

  • Divine Bounty serving in NatureBell capsules: 1,800 mg ÷ 300 mg = 6 capsules, which is three of NatureBell's 2-capsule servings (1,800 mg ÷ 600 mg = 3).
  • NatureBell serving in Divine Bounty capsules: 600 mg ÷ 600 mg = 1 capsule. One Divine Bounty capsule (1,800 mg ÷ 3 = 600 mg) and one whole NatureBell serving (600 mg printed) come to the same lion's mane weight.
  • NatureBell serving in the complex: 600 mg ÷ 50 mg = 12 capsules, or 12 ÷ 2 = 6 of the complex's 2-capsule servings.
  • Divine Bounty serving in the complex: 1,800 mg ÷ 50 mg = 36 capsules, or 1,800 mg ÷ 100 mg = 18 servings.

These compare the lion's mane line by weight only. Only one of the three photographed labels prints directions, Divine Bounty's, whose Suggested Use line begins "take three (3) capsules daily, preferably with a meal" and continues with a referral clause. The photographed NatureBell and Deal Supplement panels print no suggested-use line.

Extract, fruiting body, mycelium, organic: the words as printed

  • NatureBell prints its line as "Organic Lion's Mane Extract (Hericium erinaceus) (Fruiting body and mycelium) (Contains naturally-occurring Polysaccharides)". Three things are stated: the word Extract, two parts of the mushroom named in parentheses, and the presence of polysaccharides. No polysaccharide percentage or milligram figure is printed.
  • Divine Bounty prints "Organic Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) [from fruiting bodies]". The word Extract does not appear on this panel. The front repeats the part as "Made from Fruiting Bodies" and also prints "Lion's Mane Grown in USA". Mycelium is not mentioned on the front or the panel.
  • Deal Supplement prints Extract on each of its six single-mushroom lines and on none of the four blend names. No line on this panel says fruiting body or mycelium; each gives the common name and the Latin name only.

The word Organic is on all three panels but reaches the front of only two bottles. The NatureBell front prints "made with" over "organic lion's mane"; the Deal Supplement front prints "made with" over "organic mushrooms" and carries an "Organic Certifiers" badge. On the Divine Bounty bottle the word appears in the panel line "Organic Lion's Mane" and not among the front-label lines we read. Across the three panels every mushroom line begins with Organic: 1 + 10 + 1 = 12 lines.

What else the three panels print

  • Capsules. NatureBell: "OTHER INGREDIENTS: Organic Rice flour, gelatin (capsule)." Deal Supplement: "OTHER INGREDIENTS: Organic rice flour, gelatin (capsule)." Divine Bounty: "Other Ingredients: Rice flour, Methylcellulose capsule (Non-GMO)." The Divine Bounty front prints "90 VEGETARIAN CAPSULES" and the back adds "Suitable for Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-Free diets."
  • Free-from lines. NatureBell: "FREE OF: Wheat, gluten, soy, dairy, eggs, fish/shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts." Deal Supplement: "THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT CONTAIN: Wheat, gluten, soy, dairy & tree nuts." The Divine Bounty lines we read print no free-of list, only the diets line above.
  • Directions and cautions. Divine Bounty prints a Suggested Use line that begins "As a dietary supplement, take three (3) capsules daily, preferably with a meal" and continues with a referral clause we do not quote, then a CAUTION paragraph addressed to pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition, then "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN" and "DO NOT USE IF SAFETY SEAL IS DAMAGED OR MISSING". The photographed NatureBell and Deal Supplement panels print neither directions nor a warning; the only handling text on the Deal Supplement label is "STORAGE: Store in a cool, dark, dry place."
  • Footnotes. NatureBell and Deal Supplement print "† Daily Value not established." Divine Bounty prints "† % Daily Value not established" under the headers "Amount Per Serving" and "%Daily Value". No mushroom line on any of the three panels carries a percent figure.

Quick answers

How much lion's mane is in the 10-in-1 mushroom complex? 100 mg of Organic Lion's Mane Extract per 2-capsule serving, 50 mg per capsule, and 120 × 100 mg = 12,000 mg per 240-capsule bottle. The other nine mushrooms add 5 × 100 mg + 100 mg = 600 mg per serving: five at 100 mg each and a 100 mg Proprietary Blend of four.

Is lion's mane 600 mg per serving the same as lion's mane 1,800 mg per serving? No. NatureBell's 600 mg is per 2 capsules, 300 mg each; Divine Bounty's 1,800 mg is per 3 capsules, 600 mg each. One Divine Bounty capsule matches one whole NatureBell serving by weight.

Does any of these labels print a 10:1 mushroom extract ratio? No. The Deal Supplement front prints "10-in-1", a count of ten mushrooms; the NatureBell and Divine Bounty panels print a weight with no ratio.

Which labels say fruiting body? Two. NatureBell's line prints "(Fruiting body and mycelium)"; Divine Bounty's prints "[from fruiting bodies]" on the panel and "Made from Fruiting Bodies" on the front. The Deal Supplement panel prints neither term on any of its ten lines.

What does the Proprietary Blend 100 mg line mean on the Deal Supplement panel? One printed weight shared by four mushrooms — wood ear, oyster, maitake and mesima — with no figure for any one of them. The six mushrooms above the blend line each print their own 100 mg.

Three mushroom supplement labels, three ways of printing a number: a count of ten, a weight for one, and a blend line that gives one figure for four. The bottles sit on our Herbal & Mushroom collection; for ratios printed beside blend totals see our six-label berberine read (blend totals and extract ratios), and for the panel layout itself start with how to read a Supplement Facts label.
