Magnesium per capsule, 36 mg to 120 mg: what nine labels print

Magnesium is named on all nine fronts read for this page, and the milligram numbers printed on them run from 200 MG PER SERVING to 2000mg PER SERVING. Each Supplement Facts panel prints a row named Magnesium (or Elemental Magnesium) with its own milligram figure and %DV, and a serving of one, two or four pieces. This guide sets the front figure against the panel row for all nine, divides by the serving size for a per-capsule figure, and copies every %DV as printed. The rule of these guides holds here: printed figures, the arithmetic between them, and no statement about what magnesium does.

What the nine fronts print

Six fronts print a milligram number and the name of a magnesium form, two print no milligram number, and one prints its milligram number with “B-2 (riboflavin)” and the words “with Magnesium”.

  • A number with “per serving”: Bronson “200 MG PER SERVING”; Horbäach “1330mg per serving”; Divine Bounty “1300mg Per Serving” and “with 208mg Elemental Magnesium”; Ekkovision “2000mg” and “PER SERVING” with “MAGNESIUM L-THREONATE”.
  • A number without “per serving”: NatureBell and Deal Supplement each print “500 mg” with the words “magnesium” and “glycinate”; neither front says whether that is per capsule or per serving.
  • No milligram number: Thorne prints “Magnesium Glycinate” and “90 CAPSULES”; Integrative Therapeutics prints “MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE PLUS” and “120 TABLETS”.
  • A number with another ingredient’s name: the Deal Supplement B2 bottle prints “400 mg” and “per serving” with “B-2 (riboflavin)”, and “with Magnesium”; the panel prints 400 mg on two rows, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) and Magnesium Glycinate.

Of the six fronts with a magnesium number, four say the figure is per serving.

The panel line: serving size and the magnesium row

Each panel prints a serving size and a magnesium row with an amount and a %DV. The row is named “Magnesium” on eight panels and “Elemental Magnesium” on one; the form follows in brackets on the same line on five panels and on a sub-line below on the other four. Serving sizes as printed run from “One Capsule” and “1 Vegetarian Capsule” to “2 Capsules”, “2 Quick Release Capsules”, “2 Tablets” and “4 Capsules”.

Label Serving size and magnesium row
Thorne Magnesium Glycinate 120 mg 1 capsule: Magnesium 120 mg, 29% DV
Bronson Magnesium Glycinate 200 mg 2 capsules: Magnesium 200 mg, 48% DV
NatureBell Magnesium Glycinate 500 mg 1 capsule: Magnesium 90 mg, 21% DV
Deal Supplement Magnesium Glycinate 500 mg 1 capsule: Magnesium 90 mg, 21% DV
Horbäach Magnesium Glycinate 1330 mg 2 capsules: Magnesium 240 mg, 57% DV
Divine Bounty Magnesium Citrate 1300 mg 2 capsules: Elemental Magnesium 208mg, 50% DV
Ekkovision Magnesium L-Threonate 4 capsules: Magnesium 144 mg, 35% DV
Integrative Therapeutics Glycinate Plus 2 tablets: Magnesium 220 mg, 52% DV
Deal Supplement B2 + Magnesium Glycinate 2 capsules: Magnesium 72 mg, 17% DV

In the second column, the highest magnesium %DV per serving is Horbäach’s 57% and the lowest is the Deal Supplement B2 bottle’s 17%; the two “500 mg” labels print the same magnesium row, 90 mg at 21% DV.

How many mg of magnesium per capsule

The serving is one capsule on three labels, two pieces on five and four capsules on one. Dividing the magnesium row by the serving size puts all nine on a per-piece footing.

Label Magnesium per capsule (row ÷ serving)
Thorne, 1 per serving 120 mg, printed per capsule
Bronson, 2 per serving 200 mg ÷ 2 = 100 mg
NatureBell, 1 per serving 90 mg, printed per capsule
Deal Supplement 500 mg, 1 per serving 90 mg, printed per capsule
Horbäach, 2 per serving 240 mg ÷ 2 = 120 mg
Divine Bounty, 2 per serving 208mg ÷ 2 = 104 mg
Ekkovision, 4 per serving 144 mg ÷ 4 = 36 mg
Integrative Therapeutics, 2 per serving 220 mg ÷ 2 = 110 mg per tablet
Deal Supplement B2, 2 per serving 72 mg ÷ 2 = 36 mg

Per piece the nine labels run from 36 mg (Ekkovision; Deal Supplement B2) to 120 mg (Thorne; Horbäach), more than three to one between the smallest piece and the largest. The two “500 mg” fronts sit at 90 mg per capsule, below Bronson’s “200 MG PER SERVING” capsule at 100 mg; the Thorne front with no milligram number and the Horbäach front printing “1330mg per serving” both work out to 120 mg per capsule. The order of the front numbers and the order of the per-capsule figures are not the same order.

When the front and the panel print different numbers

Five fronts print a figure that differs from the panel’s magnesium row; on four of them the panel also prints the front figure, and on Ekkovision it does not.

  • Horbäach: front “1330mg per serving”; panel “Magnesium” 240 mg, 57% DV, sub-line “(from 1,330 mg of Magnesium Glycinate Chelate Buffered- Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate, Magnesium Oxide)”. The panel joins the two figures with the word “from”.
  • Divine Bounty: front “1300mg Per Serving” and “with 208mg Elemental Magnesium”; panel “Elemental Magnesium” 208mg, 50% DV, sub-line “(from 1300mg Magnesium Citrate)”. The front already names the 208mg as elemental; the panel repeats both figures.
  • NatureBell and Deal Supplement 500 mg: front “500 mg”; each panel prints two magnesium rows. The row named Magnesium — printed “Magnesium (as magnesium glycinate)” on NatureBell and “Magnesium (as Magnesium Glycinate)” on Deal Supplement — reads 90 mg, 21% DV; a separate row named “Magnesium Glycinate” reads 500 mg with a symbol in place of a %DV, footnoted “† Daily Value not established.” on NatureBell and “* Daily Value not established.” on Deal Supplement. The front’s 500 mg matches that second row. Neither panel prints the word “from”; this page reports the two rows as printed. NatureBell’s panel adds “Vitamin C (as ascorbyl palmitate)” 40 mg, 44% DV as a third row.
  • Ekkovision: front “2000mg” and “PER SERVING”; panel “Magnesium” 144 mg, 35% DV, sub-line “(as Magnesium L-Threonate)(Magtein®)”. The panel does not print the 2000mg figure and does not say how the two numbers relate. Per capsule the front figure is 2000mg ÷ 4 = 500 mg and the panel row 144 mg ÷ 4 = 36 mg; the front’s “120 CAPSULES | 30 SERVINGS” agrees with the panel, 120 ÷ 30 = 4.

Bronson is the one magnesium-numbered front where the front figure and the Magnesium row match: “200 MG PER SERVING” on the front, 200 mg on the panel row, form named on the sub-line as “(as Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate Buffered – Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate, Magnesium Oxide) (Albion®)”. What “elemental” means and how a magnesium %DV is arrived at is covered in our earlier read on elemental magnesium and %DV.

A two-nutrient panel and a two-form magnesium line: Vitamin B2 + magnesium, and Glycinate Plus

The Deal Supplement B2 panel, for a 2 Capsules serving, prints three rows: “Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)” 400 mg at 30,769% DV, “Magnesium (as Magnesium Glycinate)” 72 mg at 17% DV, and a separate “Magnesium Glycinate” row of 400 mg marked † with the footnote “† Daily Value not established.” The figure 400 mg appears twice on the panel and once on the front, with “B-2 (riboflavin)”. Per capsule: 72 mg ÷ 2 = 36 mg on the magnesium row, 400 mg ÷ 2 = 200 mg on each 400 mg row. The riboflavin percentage is printed as “30,769%”, comma included.

The Integrative Therapeutics panel is the only one of the nine with calorie and carbohydrate lines: “Calories” 5 and “Total Carbohydrate” 1 g at “<1%†”, with “Magnesium (as magnesium bisglycinate and malate)” 220 mg at 52% DV, footnoted “†Percent Daily Values (DV) are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.” It is also the one label in this set that is not a capsule: the front prints “120 TABLETS”, the serving size is “2 Tablets”, 60 servings per container. Two forms are named on one line without a separate figure for either; 220 mg ÷ 2 = 110 mg per tablet.

Per container, and the words on the fronts

Eight panels print a servings-per-container line. Thorne’s does not; its front prints “90 CAPSULES”, and at One Capsule per serving that is 90 ÷ 1 = 90 servings. Magnesium row times servings gives that row’s total for the whole bottle:

  • Thorne, 90 capsules: 90 × 120 mg = 10,800 mg
  • Bronson, 60 capsules: 30 × 200 mg = 6,000 mg
  • NatureBell, 240 capsules: 240 × 90 mg = 21,600 mg
  • Deal Supplement 500 mg, 240 capsules: 240 × 90 mg = 21,600 mg
  • Horbäach, 250 capsules: 125 × 240 mg = 30,000 mg
  • Divine Bounty, 120 capsules: 60 × 208mg = 12,480 mg
  • Ekkovision, 120 capsules: 30 × 144 mg = 4,320 mg
  • Integrative Therapeutics, 120 tablets: 60 × 220 mg = 13,200 mg
  • Deal Supplement B2, 240 capsules: 120 × 72 mg = 8,640 mg

Descriptive words on the fronts, copied as printed: Bronson “CHELATE BUFFERED”, “ALBION MINERALS”, “60 Vegetarian Capsules”; Horbäach “Chelated and Buffered”, “Made with Chelated Minerals”; NatureBell “240 Vegetarian Capsules”; Deal Supplement “240 vegetarian capsules”; Divine Bounty “120 VEGETARIAN CAPSULES”; Ekkovision “Magtein®”, “120 CAPSULES | 30 SERVINGS”. A vegetarian capsule count is printed on four fronts. Gelatin is listed among the other ingredients on two panels — Horbäach “Gelatin Capsule”, Deal Supplement B2 “gelatin (capsule)” — and neither of those fronts prints a vegetarian count.

Directions are printed on five labels, each naming the same piece count as the serving size: Bronson “take two capsules daily, preferably with a meal”; Horbäach “take two (2) quick release capsules daily, preferably with a meal.”; Divine Bounty “take two (2) capsules daily, preferably with a meal”; NatureBell “adults take one (1) capsule daily”; Integrative Therapeutics “Adults take 2 tablets two to three times daily with meals”. Thorne, both Deal Supplement bottles and Ekkovision show no directions in the photographed images. A warning or caution line is printed on three labels (Bronson, Divine Bounty, Integrative Therapeutics); the other six photographed labels print none.

Quick answers

How many mg of magnesium per capsule do these labels give? Panel magnesium row divided by serving size: 36 mg (Ekkovision; Deal Supplement B2), 90 mg (NatureBell; Deal Supplement 500 mg), 100 mg (Bronson), 104 mg (Divine Bounty), 110 mg per tablet (Integrative Therapeutics), 120 mg (Thorne; Horbäach).

Is magnesium glycinate 500 mg the same as 500 mg of magnesium? On the two 500 mg labels the panel row named Magnesium prints 90 mg at 21% DV per capsule; the 500 mg is a separate row named Magnesium Glycinate with no %DV, footnoted “Daily Value not established.”

What does the magnesium citrate 1300 mg label print per serving? “1300mg Per Serving” and “with 208mg Elemental Magnesium” on the front; on the panel, Elemental Magnesium 208mg at 50% DV per 2 Capsules, “(from 1300mg Magnesium Citrate)”.

What does the magnesium L-threonate label print? Front: “2000mg” and “PER SERVING”, and “120 CAPSULES | 30 SERVINGS”. Panel: 4 Capsules per serving, Magnesium 144 mg at 35% DV, “(as Magnesium L-Threonate)(Magtein®)”, 30 servings. The 2000mg figure is on the front only.

This page compares printed quantities on nine labels and nothing else. The bottles are on the magnesium collection; for the form names printed in the brackets, see our glycinate vs citrate vs oxide guide, and for the layout of any panel, start with how to read a Supplement Facts label.

The same front device, a milligram figure followed by “per serving” above a two-piece serving, is on the Horbäach zinc tablets too: “100mg per serving” divides to 50 mg per tablet in our zinc 20 to 100 mg per capsule and tablet read, where five of seven fronts print the per-capsule figure outright.
