L-Theanine 200 mg vs GABA 750 mg: what seven labels print

A front that prints “L-THEANINE” in capitals and a front that prints “SLEEP” in capitals can sit over Supplement Facts panels that share just one ingredient line. We read seven panels from products on our shelf: two capsule bottles built around L-theanine, two built around GABA, a tri-layer tablet whose front leads with melatonin, a honey-lemon powder measured by the scoop, and a strawberry gummy that prints both ingredients. The serving is one capsule, two capsules, one tablet, one 10.7 g scoop or two gummies, and the printed L-theanine and GABA figures run from 100 mg to 750 mg. This guide lines the milligrams up, works each one down to a single piece, and records how each panel marks the %DV column. The series rule holds: printed lines and the arithmetic on them, nothing about what any ingredient does.

Seven panels, five serving sizes

The second column gives each panel’s serving size and its L-theanine or GABA amount; the gummy row shows both, and the tablet row also shows its melatonin line.

Label Serving size and printed amount
Bronson L-Theanine 200 mg Capsules 1 Capsule: L-Theanine 200 mg
Integrative Therapeutics L-Theanine Capsules 2 Capsules: L-Theanine 200 mg
Revive Sleep Powder Honey Lemon 1 Scoop (10.7g): L-Theanine 200mg
Nature Made L-Theanine GABA Gummies 2 Gummies: L-theanine 200 mg, GABA 100 mg
Integrative Therapeutics GABA 750 mg Capsules 1 Capsule: GABA 750 mg
Thorne PharmaGABA 100 mg Capsules One Capsule: GABA 100 mg
Nature's Bounty Sleep3+ tablets 1 Tablet: GABA 100 mg, melatonin 10 mg

All four panels that print L-theanine print 200 mg per serving, on four different serving sizes. The GABA lines are less uniform: one capsule panel prints 750 mg, and the other three GABA lines — one capsule, one tablet, two gummies — each print 100 mg. Only the gummy panel carries both ingredients; only the tri-layer tablet carries melatonin.

L-theanine 200 mg: one figure, four serving sizes

  • Bronson, 1 capsule. The front prints “L-THEANINE” and “200 MG”; the panel prints L-Theanine 200 mg per capsule, so no division is needed. A second line prints “Passionflower herb extract (Passiflora incarnata)” at 10 mg, announced on the front as “FORTIFIED WITH PASSION FLOWER” — two words on the front, one on the panel.
  • Integrative Therapeutics, 2 capsules. The front prints no strength, only “L-THEANINE”, “60 CAPSULES” and “DIETARY SUPPLEMENT”. The panel prints “Serving Size 2 Capsules” and L-Theanine “200 mg**”, so one capsule carries 200 mg ÷ 2 = 100 mg. It also prints “Servings per Container 30”, and 60 capsules ÷ 2 = 30 matches.
  • Revive, 1 scoop. The serving line reads “1 Scoop (10.7g)”, which is 10,700 mg of powder; the L-Theanine line is printed “200mg”, without a space. The front does not mention L-theanine. It prints “3G GLYCINE”, “2G INOSITOL” and “400MG MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE”; the panel repeats those as L-Glycine 3g (3,000 mg), Inositol 2g (2,000 mg) and Magnesium 400mg, sourced “as magnesium bisglycinate chelate, magnesium taurate”. The front prints “MELATONIN-FREE” and, elsewhere, “MELATONIN FREE”; the panel has no melatonin line.
  • Nature Made, 2 gummies. The panel prints L-theanine 200 mg and GABA 100 mg per 2 Gummies, so one gummy carries 200 mg ÷ 2 = 100 mg of L-theanine and 100 mg ÷ 2 = 50 mg of GABA. The front calls the pair a “2in1 BLEND”, marked “¹GABA” and “²L-THEANINE”; the panel itemizes each amount rather than printing one blend total. The back label also prints “SUGGESTED USE: Adults, chew 2 gummies as needed.” and “Do not take more than one serving per day.”

The word “Suntheanine” is not printed in any of the three photographs of the Integrative Therapeutics bottle. Our listing name for that bottle carries it; the photographs name the ingredient only as “L-THEANINE” on the front and “L-Theanine 200 mg**” on the panel, and below the panel they print “Recommendation: Adults take 2 capsules one to two times daily.”

GABA 750 mg vs PharmaGABA 100 mg, and the two other GABA 100 mg lines

Neither GABA capsule prints a milligram figure on its front. The Integrative Therapeutics bottle prints “GABA”, “60 CAPSULES” and “DIETARY SUPPLEMENT”; the Thorne bottle prints “PharmaGABA-100”, with the 100 appearing only inside the name.

  • Integrative Therapeutics GABA. “Serving Size 1 Capsule”; the line reads “GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid)”, the amount printed “750 mg**”. Below the panel, the printed line opens “Recommendation: Adults take 1 capsule once or twice daily,” and runs on past the comma to a clause about professional advice; a second sentence prints “Not formulated for children.”
  • Thorne PharmaGABA. “Serving Size: One Capsule”, and the column header reads “One Capsule Contains:” where the Bronson and Nature Made panels print “Amount Per Serving”. The line reads “Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA)†” at 100 mg — name first, abbreviation second, the reverse of the other three GABA lines. The † after “(GABA)” has no matching footnote visible in the photograph; the only footnote visible is “*Daily Value (DV) not established.”

750 mg ÷ 100 mg = 7.5, so one Integrative Therapeutics capsule prints seven and a half times the GABA of one Thorne capsule. The other two GABA lines match Thorne’s figure. The Nature's Bounty tablet prints “GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid)” at 100 mg per 1 Tablet; the Nature Made gummy prints the same name and 100 mg per 2 Gummies, 50 mg per gummy. Four panels, three printed forms of one name.

Of the four labels whose warning text is photographed, two print a sentence about alcohol. Integrative Therapeutics GABA: “Avoid the use of alcohol when taking GABA.” Bronson: “Do not consume alcohol, drive or operate machinery after taking this product.” The Thorne photographs show no warning text and no directions in any of the three images.

The Sleep3+ tri-layer panel: GABA 100 mg, ashwagandha, melatonin — no L-theanine line

The Nature's Bounty front leads with “10 mg” and “Melatonin per serving” and prints “28 TRI-LAYERED TABLETS” and “TRIPLE ACTION TIME-RELEASE TECHNOLOGY”. The panel, serving size “1 Tablet”, prints three lines:

  • GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) — 100 mg
  • Ashwagandha Extract (Withania somnifera) (root) — 60 mg
  • Melatonin — 10 mg

Each carries a double asterisk, footnote “**Daily Value not established”. There is no L-theanine line. Added together, 100 mg + 60 mg + 10 mg = 170 mg of listed ingredients per tablet. The other-ingredients list includes two colors, “Spirulina Extract (Color)” and “Turmeric Oleoresin (Color)”. The directions line, in capitals, reads “DIRECTIONS FOR ADULTS, TAKE ONE (1) TABLET 30 MINUTES BEFORE BEDTIME.” The panel prints no Servings Per Container line, and no warning text appears in the photographs of the box.

The two “sleep” fronts are opposites on one point: the tablet is the only panel of the seven with a melatonin line, and the Revive powder is the only front that prints “MELATONIN-FREE”. The photographed tub label shows no Directions line and no warning text; a separate graphic prints “30–60 minutes before bedtime”.

Servings per container: printed on four panels, counted from the front on three

Four panels print a servings line; three do not, and for those the front count is the only number to multiply by.

Label Servings line; mg per container
Bronson, 120 capsules 120 printed; 120 × 200 mg = 24,000 mg
Integrative L-Theanine, 60 capsules 30 printed; 30 × 200 mg = 6,000 mg
Revive, 321 g tub 30 printed; 30 × 200 mg = 6,000 mg
Nature Made, 40 gummies 20 printed; 20 × 200 mg = 4,000 mg
Integrative GABA, 60 capsules no line; 60 × 750 mg = 45,000 mg
Thorne, 60 capsules no line; 60 × 100 mg = 6,000 mg
Nature's Bounty, 28 tablets no line; 28 × 100 mg GABA = 2,800 mg

Bronson prints “120 COUNT” and “Servings Per Container: 120”, one capsule per serving. Nature Made prints “40 GUMMIES” and “2 gummies per serving” on the front and 20 servings on the panel: 40 ÷ 2 = 20. Revive prints “Net Wt. 321g (11.32 oz)”, and 30 servings × 10.7 g = 321 g, the net weight to the gram. The Nature Made GABA total is 20 × 100 mg = 2,000 mg per bottle, beside its 4,000 mg of L-theanine.

For the three panels without a servings line, the totals use the front count: “60 CAPSULES” on both GABA bottles and “28 TRI-LAYERED TABLETS” on the box. Each of those panels prints a one-piece serving, so count and servings are the same number.

%DV, dagger, asterisk: how the L-theanine and GABA lines are marked

None of the seven panels prints a percentage next to L-theanine or GABA. Every such line carries a symbol pointing to a “not established” footnote; the symbol differs by label.

  • Dagger: Bronson prints † on the L-Theanine and passionflower lines, footnote “† Daily Value not established”.
  • Double asterisk attached to the unit: both Integrative Therapeutics panels print the marks directly after the milligrams, “200 mg**” and “750 mg**”, footnote “**Daily Value (DV) not established.”
  • Double asterisk in the %DV column: Nature's Bounty on all three lines, footnote “**Daily Value not established”; Revive on L-Glycine, Inositol and L-Theanine, footnote “**Daily Value (DV) not established.”
  • Single asterisk: Thorne, with “*Daily Value (DV) not established.”; Nature Made on L-theanine and GABA, with “* Daily Value not established.”

Two panels print percentages for other lines, and they use the asterisks in opposite senses. On Revive a single asterisk means “*Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.” and the double asterisk means not established; on Nature Made the double asterisk reads “** Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.” and the single one means not established. The percentages: Revive prints Magnesium 400mg at 95%, Sodium 50mg at 2%, and 0% for Total Carbohydrate 0g; Nature Made prints Total Carbohydrate 6 g at “2%**”, “Includes 4 g Added Sugars” at “8%**” and Sodium 20 mg at 1%. How a magnesium line arrives at 95% is covered in our magnesium labels guide.

Quick answers

GABA 750 mg vs PharmaGABA 100 mg: what is the label difference? Per capsule, 750 mg against 100 mg, 7.5 to 1. Neither front prints a milligram figure; Thorne’s front carries “PharmaGABA-100”, and its panel heads the column “One Capsule Contains:”.

Which of the seven labels prints a %DV for L-theanine or GABA? None. Every such line carries a dagger, asterisk or double asterisk pointing to a “Daily Value not established” footnote.

Seven labels, seven serving lines, two ingredients in milligrams: that is the whole of this page. The bottles, tub and box are on our sleep collection; for the melatonin line on the tri-layer tablet, see our melatonin 10 mg labels read, and for the panel vocabulary from the top, how to read a Supplement Facts label.

The strawberry gummy's two-gummy serving is read the same way as the two Qunol gummies in our turmeric 755 mg vs 500 mg gummies read, where 500 mg is also a two-gummy figure.
